Why Oman holiday dates move

Oman now moves some holidays to sit next to the weekend. In 2026, Accession Day moved to 15 January, Isra and Mi'raj to 18 January and National Day to 25–26 November. Expect similar moves in 2027, and update your calendar when the January announcement is made.

What Oman employers must know

Public holidays are paid for private sector employees. Employees who work on a public holiday must be compensated under the Labour Law (Royal Decree No. 53 of 2023), with extra pay or paid rest days. Check the current rate with the Ministry of Labour before setting your policy.

  • Load the 2027 holiday calendar into your HR and payroll system now, and update it when official dates are announced.
  • Set your policy for staff who must work on holidays, and agree in writing whether they get pay or a day off.
  • Plan payroll cut-offs around Eid, since banks and teams may be closed.
  • Ask employees to book leave around long weekends early, so cover is planned.
  • Update non-Eid holiday dates in January, when Oman publishes the year's moved dates.
